Siesta TimeA "becoming brief" episode of energy conservation. As the pups take a break I'd like to think they're dreaming of becoming the well rounded Dobermans each of you hopes they'll be. I've gotten them off to a good start but I always say the end result is a direct result of the time and energy invested. Start them young... spoil them but make sure to instill some manners too. A good rule of thumb; if you don't want them to do "it" as an adult, don't let them get away with "it" as a pup. Whatever your "it" may be. Be honest and fair and make training fun! Reward the good, and gently correct the.. uh... not so good. Dobermans learn quickly, enjoy the challenge and are in general eager to please. Take full advantage of that and things should go pretty smooth for ya as you welcome your new family members into your homes.
Well, it's been another busy day around here... And some selections have been made.
Black is officially off the market and will be assisting Brian and Trish with the housewarming process! Brown worked his magic on Robert but more so on Allison I think with his calm and gentle nature. No worries Robert. I promise he'll have enough energy for you! Green, the pup who never rests, will be the second GMBD pup to grace the small town of Gotha with his presence as he joins Mark and Jenny and the rest of the family. I really couldn't imagine a better fit for Green than a home full of people and lots of activity. For the males, Laura is up next and will be visiting early next week to select either Maroon or Blue, both of which are great pups! As far as the girls go, it seems I'm holding everyone up. I quite simply can't bring myself to choose. I thought after spending nearly 7 weeks with them it would be an easy task but I'm finding it to be anything but easy. Each one is unique and there are qualities that I adore about every one of them! I thought I had things narrowed down to two but then another captured my attention. My plan is to relax a bit next week, set the camera aside and just enjoy them. Hopefully a decision will come. If not, the day before Thanksgiving will come whether I'm ready or not! My plan at this point, since I've thus far been unable to come to a decision, is to schedule times on the 26th for those of you waiting for the girls to come and make your selection in person. Times will be scheduled based on the order in which you appear on "the list". I will be available early in the day through late in the evening. If there's anyone who doesn't have a fairly open schedule the day before Thanksgiving please let me know so other arrangements or plans can be made. Since all the girls are scheduled for crops we still have some time to figure things out. I did manage to snap some candid shots of the lasses today and will get them uploaded over the weekend. Hopefully they will help with decisions whenever the time comes. Soon it will be your turn behind the camera and I hope each and every one of you will remember me and shoot some photos my way. I've got a total of 4 slide shows of the boys... and Purple, taken a couple days ago, just haven't had the time to load them. Will get started this evening and finish up tomorrow... Will also try and get some group photos of the girls tomorrow and post some slides of them with the exception of Purple... for everyone to study over the weekend.... Green and WhiteMaroon and BluePurple and BrownMostly Black And A Few More Of BrownAfter a long delay, pages are updated. Weights too!
Sky's weight surprised me and Purple is gaining ground! Well, I'm happy to report an uneventful weekend and untroubled day. My heart is healing and I've gotten back into my well known routine. Started the morning off by taking Jobe to class and was happy to see he remembered some of the things we worked on last week. His "Watch Me" is considerably better and will help with everything he'll learn down the road.
We enjoyed visits again. Nick and Michelle stopped by last night for some puppy play time and this morning Nick stopped by on his way back to S.C. in order, for the first time, to see the boys frolic and explore the great outdoors. He and Michelle struggled and contemplated but at the end of the day our first pup of the litter has been chosen. White has been claimed and will be traveling back and forth between S.C. and Florida. I anticipate a pretty strong bond to develop between Nick and his boy as Dobes tend to love road trips and to go where ever their humans are willing to take them. The afternoon was spent snapping photos of the Boys and Purple. I'll combine today's shots with the pictures I took last week and update the pages tonight. This evening we welcomed Matt and Jamie who came once again to see the girls. Tonight's adventure was a indoor affair and the pups enjoyed not only the company of their callers but that of Keeper, my Maine Coon kitten, as well. Keeps played with the pups like he was one of the pack providing some entertainment for all! Tomorrow Allison and Robert plan a re-visit and we'll get the chance to meet Jeff and his family for the first time. Then Brian and Trish will return Wednesday and Jack and Gail Thursday. Let me know if anyone else would like to come. I will finish the weights tonight and get them posted and once again administer the pups their wormers. Tomorrow at some point, they will receive the first of their vaccines. And with that, today we hit the 6 week mark leaving just over 2 weeks left to go! I must say, the time has certainly flown right by! I managed to get some fairly decent photos of the girls for their weekly entries with the exception of Purple before things started to fall apart on me. I had planned to take Purps out by herself but unfortunately, I ran out of time. She did get her outing though while Brian was here to check out the boys because it seems everyone wants to see Purple. And he agreed, she's a doll baby. I snapped a few photos of the boys as a group while Brian was here and hoped that I could get some for their weekly entries but they are just too darn busy... constantly on the move. Blue seems very intrigued by what might be in the well shack so we had to spend some time retrieving him. I finally broke down and found a metal sign that served to block the hole so hopefully that issue is resolved for future showings. In the slide show below, you see the beginning of good intentions. Orange is practicing an exaggerated stack, red demonstrates the "sit pretty" pose that people always seem to teach small pooches and the boys clamber around trying to get some undivided attention from Brian. I threw one in of Lex too just because I like it. Tomorrow the work week begins anew so I best get ready to tackle it. Hope you all have a nice weekend. A piece of my heart died today |
